Microsoft wireless keyboard, please help!?

I bought my husband a keyboard and a Microsoft wireless mouse for his birthday because the connection that we had a few duds, but the latest is that the keyboard seems to go to sleep after only a few minutes of inactivity, by using the "sleep" is ineffective, and the only way to get to work again is to restart the whole, which takes time and infuriating as well. Someone knows why this happens and how to stop it from happening, and in terms Laymans if possible, hubby is at work, it would be so nice to have sorted for when he returns. Thank you :-) It was purchased this week, connected with new batteries last night!

Interference may frequncy. not move as speakers of other items cordless and cell phone away from the mouse and keyboard. other than that, please send an e-mail from Microsoft, or call on, so that you can get technical support.
